One of the things I am enjoying most is eating every meal together as a family. There is something so comforting about food and spending time together in the kitchen and around the table as a family. One of the most comforting things I make is my Dad's Pizza. Every time I smell the sauce simmering on the stove it makes me think about all the times my dad made pizza for me and my friends. Our house was the local hangout when we were growing up and almost every weekend this sauce was simmering in our own kitchen. I had some of my best conversations with my dad helping him make the pizzas for our friends that were coming over that night. I have now passed that tradition to my own children. As Adalee and I made the dough and the pizzas this past weekend, it brought such joy to me.
I know several people have asked for the recipe, so here it is:
Dad's Pizza Sauce
4 Cans of Tomato Sauce (32 oz total)
3 TBSP Olive Oil
3/4 TBSP Minced Dried Onion
1 tsp Sugar
1 TBSP Italian Seasoning
1 TBSP Dried Parsley
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp Pepper
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 1 1/2 hours on low.
The crust I use comes from Giada De Laurentis.
Homemade Pizza Dough
It's a pretty basic dough, but it works everytime!
