A Trip to the Zoo

Today on the spur of the moment we decided to go to the Kansas City Zoo. We were actually heading to the mall, but the weather was nicer than they forcasted, so we decided to head to the zoo instead. The boys loved it. Adam wanted to see as much as possible, as quickly as possible, while Alden wanted to stay and really watch and study each animal. We rode on trams, trains and even a boat! We saw lions, giraffes, zebras, hippos, rhinos, turtles, kangaroos, sea lions, lots and lots of birds, and many more. Adam said his favorite was the kangaroo and Alden said his favorite was the elephant. We were there from around 12:00 until 5:30. The kids did really well. Even Adalee was an angel for her first trip to the zoo.

Adalee Week 5

It's been an interesting week with little Adalee. Her pediatrician called last night with some not so good news. She said her PKU test (a newborn genetic test) came back positive. PKU is basically a genetic disorder where a person can't break down protiens. If it's not caught early enough it can cause mental retardation. A person with PKU must eat a specialized diet (no meats, dairy, or eggs) for their whole life, but it is a manageable disease. She wanted her to come back in for a retest. Well once we actually got back into the clinic we found out that the PKU was fine, but the test came back positive for Galactosemia. That is basically a disorder in which the body can't break down lactose. So a person with Galactosemia must avoid all dairy and lactose foods.
Well once we got to the lab and spoke with them about her previous test we realized that the tube they collected the blood sample in could cause false positives for this test. So they sent us to another hospital to repeat the test. The results wont be in for another week. Adalee doesn't display any symptoms of either disease, so we really feel it is a lab error as does our doctor. But either way, please pray that all is well with baby Adalee and that the test will show that she is a normal, healthy baby girl. She is growing and thriving and really starting to smile and "talk" to us. So please say an extra prayer for us this week as we await the results and we'll update as soon as we hear anything.

Last Day of School

Tuesday was Adam's last day of preschool. I can't believe a whole year has passed already. He had a great year and really enjoyed going to school everyday. He is really going to miss going. When I told him it was his last day he asked why. I told him you got to take summer off of school. He wanted to know why anyone would want to be off of school. Let's hope he keeps that attitude.

Adam's Birthday Celebration at School

On Tuesday, the last day of school, we celebrated Adam's birthday. While we were setting up the snacks, Adam and Alden listened to Mrs. Wells read a story and sang a song. Alden loved coming to big brother's school and fit in like he was one of the kids. Adam loved having his special day at school. He was so excited about his cupcakes we made.
